You can apply a customer's credit to any of their other invoices. A credit is an invoice whose balance has gone below zero.
Apply credit to an open invoice
Open the invoice that still has a balance.
In the Credit available banner, click Apply.
In Apply credit to invoice, tick the credits to use, in the order you want them used.
Check the Balance due, then click Apply credit.
Streamlined never applies more than the invoice owes. Anything left stays as credit.
Apply credit when you issue an invoice
When you issue a draft invoice right away for a customer who has credit, Streamlined shows Apply credit to invoice first. Tick the credits to use and click Next, or click Skip to issue it without credit.
Where credit comes from
An invoice shows a CREDIT badge when more has been taken off it than it was for:
An overpayment. Your customer paid more than the invoice, or paid it twice.
A large credit note. Someone recorded a credit note for more than was owed.
A split payment. The amounts applied across several invoices didn't add up to the whole payment. The difference stays as credit on one of them.
To tell which, open the invoice's Balance summary. Payments and credit notes are listed separately. Click a line to see who recorded it and its memo.
Note: A payment that was never applied to an invoice isn't a credit. It waits on Transactions until you match it.
Why a paid invoice shows a large credit
The Credit available banner shows your customer's total credit across all their invoices, not only this one's. For a customer in a group, it adds up credit from every location. The customer page shows the same total as Available credit from previous invoices.
Clear a credit you don't want
If the credit is a mistake, or you returned the money outside Streamlined, record a debit note for the credit amount on the invoice in credit.
Who can use this feature?
Team members with Invoices access to apply credit, and Transactions access to record a debit note
