Overpayment occurs when we receive multiple payments for the same invoice. (Hence the reason for the auto-credit tracking that we have.) We've seen this happen more so with mid-sized and larger establishments where the point of contact for the relationship isn't aware that AP has already issued payment. Or when the bookkeeper cuts the checks but the business owner doesn't know.
You have the option to apply the overpayment as credit to a customer’s account, as payment towards an invoice, or request to return the funds.
