Your customers mail paper checks to your lockbox address. Streamlined records each check as a payment and attaches the check image. When it's clear which invoice a check pays, Streamlined applies it.
Turn on lockbox
Lockbox is for US merchants, on US dollar invoices to customers in the US. Turn it on in Settings > Payments > Lockbox. If you can't turn it on there, email help@streamlinedpayments.com and the Streamlined team will set it up.
Where your customer finds the address
On the invoice, under Payment instructions.
On the payment page, under Pay with check, with Print Instructions.
In the PDF from Download payment details on the customer's Billing tab. The same address shows under Paper Checks on that tab.
Tell your customer how to mail a check
Make the check payable to the name under Payable to.
Copy the address exactly, including the Attn: line. That line is unique to the customer and tells Streamlined who sent the check.
Send it by regular USPS mail. The lockbox can't accept FedEx, UPS, or other couriers.
Include the invoice numbers it pays, on the stub or a note in the envelope.
Note: A check without the Attn: line still gets recorded, but it can take longer while it's identified.
Find a check when it arrives
Checks are usually recorded within two business days of reaching the lockbox, plus mail time. The payment shows on Transactions, with the check image under Attachments.
If the check pays exactly one open invoice, Streamlined applies it. Otherwise, it waits with the payments that couldn't be matched until you match it to an invoice.
When a check is returned to sender
Ask your customer to compare the address with the one on their invoice, including the Attn: line. Also ask them to confirm they sent it by USPS. If checks still come back, email help@streamlinedpayments.com with the customer's name, the check number, the amount, the date it was mailed, and the address they used.
