Your customer gets a refund the same way they paid, or by bank transfer for payments they sent to you. Each refund's status shows on the payment in Streamlined.
Where the money goes
Card: back to the same card.
Bank debit, including ACH debit: back to the same bank account.
Wire, check, ACH credit, and other bank transfers: sent by ACH to the bank account you entered when you issued the refund, in US dollars only.
Note: Streamlined can't send a refund as a paper check. If you write one yourself, Streamlined won't know about it. Clear any credit it leaves with a debit note.
How long it takes
Once Streamlined sends the refund, your customer's bank or card issuer decides when it appears. Card refunds can take several business days to show on a statement. Bank refunds show once the receiving bank posts them.
Check a refund's status
Open the payment from the invoice's Balance summary or from Transactions. Its banner shows one of these:
Processing refund: sent and on its way.
Refund completed or Partial refund completed: the money has been returned.
Refund unsuccessful: it didn't go through, and you can issue it again.
To list every refund, go to Transactions, open the Transaction filter, and choose Refund.
What your customer is told
When you issue a refund on an invoice, Streamlined emails your customer a receipt with the amount, the date, and your memo. If they paid by card, they can ask their card issuer about it with those details.
A refund of a deposit doesn't send this email, so tell your customer yourself.
To get an email whenever someone on your team issues a refund on an invoice, turn on Refund issued in your notifications.
Follow up on a refund that hasn't arrived
If the banner on the payment says Refund unsuccessful, issue the refund again.
For a refund by bank transfer, confirm with your customer the account and routing number you entered.
If it says Refund completed and enough time has passed, email help@streamlinedpayments.com with the invoice number, refund amount, refund date, and the customer's name.
The Streamlined team will trace it for you.
