Use customer tags

Label customers, then use those labels to waive card fees, limit card payments, or skip reminders and statements.

A tag is a short label on a customer, such as VIP or Wholesale. Tags help you find customers. Several settings also use them to treat tagged customers differently.

Add or remove a tag

  1. Open the customer and go to the Profile tab.

  2. In Details, click Edit details (✎).

  3. Under Tags, type a tag and press Enter, or click the x on a tag to remove it.

  4. Click Save.

Shopify customers bring their tags with them. To find the customers with a tag, type it into the customer search.

Turn settings on or off with tags

Each setting lists one or more tags. A customer with any of them is matched. Capital letters don't matter.

  • Waive card fees: in Settings > Payments > Card payment, under Pass card fees to customers, turn on Exclude tagged customers. Tagged customers never pay the card fee. See card fees.

  • Offer card only to some customers: in Settings > Checkout, use Only offer card payments to customers with these tags. This is on Scale and Enterprise.

  • Skip automatic reminders: in Settings > Collections > Automated reminders, use Exclude customers based on tags. See stop reminders for one customer.

  • Skip balance adjustment emails: in Settings > Collections > Balance adjustment notifications, use Exclude customers based on tags.

  • Skip statement emails: in Settings > Collections > Account statements, use Exclude customers based on tags. This applies to individual customer statements, not group statements.

After changing a tag list, click Save changes. Changes apply to the next email or payment.

Tip: Use one word per tag where you can. Some settings add a tag when you press space.

Apply a tag rule to a group

Tags belong to customers, not groups, so tag each member.

When a tag doesn't work

If a tagged customer isn't treated as you expect, check the spelling under Tags on their Profile tab. If it looks right, email help@streamlinedpayments.com with the tag and the customer's name.

Who can use this feature?

  • Team members with Customers access, to tag customers
