A customer group ties several customers together, usually the locations or buyers of one business. Grouping changes how they're billed and reported. It doesn't change their invoices or payment history. A customer can be in one group at a time.
Create a group
Go to Customers > Groups and click Add Group, or select customers in Customers and click Create group.
Enter a Group name. If you leave it blank, Streamlined names it after the members.
Pick members under Customers.
On Scale and Enterprise, choose a Billing Account if one member pays for all.
Note: A customer already in another group can't be added until you take them out of it.
What a group shares
A billing address: every member's new invoices are addressed to the group's preferred billing address. Invoice and reminder emails go to its email. See where customer emails go.
A paying account: on Scale and Enterprise, the Billing Account is the member that pays for everyone. Its saved card or bank account pays at checkout and through QuickPay. Its bank transfer details are printed on every member's invoices. See billing for a customer with many locations.
Credits: one member's credit can pay another member's invoice.
Payments: a payment can go to any member's open invoices.
Reporting: the group's page totals every member's balance, aging, and invoices. The group has its own statement.
Net terms: saving net terms on the group copies them to its current members. Customers you add later keep their own terms, so set theirs too.
Change or delete a group
To change the name, members, or Billing Account, open the group, click ⋮, and choose Edit group. If you remove the billing account's customer from the group, the billing account is cleared.
To set the group's billing address, go to the group's Profile tab and use Set as preferred billing on one of its addresses.
Delete group only removes the grouping. Customers, invoices, payments, and addresses all stay.
Groups from Shopify B2B companies
If you sync Shopify, each B2B company with contacts comes in as a group. Its contacts become the members. On Scale and Enterprise, the company's main contact becomes the group's Billing Account.
Approving an application with Add to Shopify as a Company does the same, if the group has no Billing Account yet.
To combine duplicate records instead, see merge duplicate customers.
