Find the fees, refunds, and chargebacks in a deposit

Your bank deposit is less than the payments you expected. See the fees deducted, and the refunds and chargebacks, that make up the difference.

If a deposit is less than expected, fees, refunds, or chargebacks usually explain it. A payout sends you its payments minus processing fees, and minus any refunds and chargebacks in the same payout. The deposit in your bank is the payout's Net amount, not the total your customers paid.

Find what came out of a payout

  1. Find the payout with the deposit's Net amount, as in match a bank deposit.

  2. Open it and look for Refund and Chargeback rows and their fees.

  3. Click Export CSV to download the breakdown for your books.

If the rows don't explain the difference, email help@streamlinedpayments.com with the deposit date, the deposit amount, and the payout date you expected it to match.

How a payout adds up

Open the payout under Reports > Payouts. Payout details shows three numbers:

  • Gross amount: the payments in the payout, less any refunds and chargebacks in it.

  • Fee: the processing fees on those payments, plus any refund or chargeback fees.

  • Net amount: gross amount minus fees. This is what was sent to your bank.

The breakdown gives each row its own Gross Amount, Fees, and Net Amount, so you can see which payment or deduction caused a difference. A payout with refunds or chargebacks in it can be much smaller than usual.

Processing fees

Each payment's fee depends on how your customer paid. To see your rates, go to Settings > Payments, open a payment method, and look under Pricing. A payment's fee also shows in its details on Transactions, next to its Gross amount and Net amount.

Refunds

A refund of a card or bank debit payment comes out of a Stripe Settlements payout, as a Refund row. Your original processing fee isn't returned.

Refunds of wires, checks, and other bank transfers go out by ACH and carry a processing fee. The refund screen shows it as Total deducted before you confirm. See refund a payment.

Chargebacks

When your customer's bank takes back a card or bank debit payment, the chargeback and any chargeback fee come out of a payout as a Chargeback row. Click the row to see which invoice it was for, then handle the chargeback.
